Vista takes a multidisciplinary approach, utilizing the expertise of a psychiatric physician, advanced practice nurse, licensed clinical social worker, and marriage and family therapist. They practice in a collaborative team approach, sharing expertise, clinical insights, and treatment goals. In addition, Vista provides referral sources to patients requiring specific support or additional services.

Awards: Ascher Fund Scholarship for medical education; Dr. Ruth Marguerite Easterling Award for positively impacting medically underserved populations.
Dr. Valencia Bagby-Young, board-certified psychiatric APRN and Psychologist is a graduate of American International College, with doctorate and master’s degrees in educational psychology, and a master’s degree in science and nursing. Regis College with a post-master’s psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner certification. She is also a graduate of Central Connecticut State University, with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, and Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing, as a registered nurse. Her current focus is behavioral health, providing medication management and psychotherapy.

Dr. Valencia Bagby-Young is a licensed psychologist and board-certified family nurse practitioner (FNP) and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP). She has 38-years of experience as a registered nurse. Her nursing clinical practice has included the following specialties: childbirth educator, maternal-child visiting nurse, pediatric homecare nurse, neonatal intensive care, geriatrics, psychiatric – mental health, intellectual/developmental disabilities, and dual diagnosis (mental illness and cognitive/intellectual disabilities). As a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, Dr. Bagby-Young provides psychotherapy and medication management for adolescents and adults. As a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Dr. Bagby-Young has worked in primary care providing holistic care in the areas of wellness, acute illness, chronic diseases, depression, certifications for the CT Medical Marijuana Program, and medication assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid use disorder (OUD). Dr. Bagby-Young has been a licensed psychologist for 9-years. As a psychologist, Dr. Bagby-Young’s experiences have included: psychological testing, forensic psychology competency to stand trial evaluations (CSTE) with court testimony for adults and children, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), group therapy for women, religious affiliated pre-marital counseling, individual therapy, grief counseling, co-facilitating social groups for individuals with intellectual disability, and facilitating conversations in cultural diversity. She has also been an adjunct psychology professor at Manchester Community College and Goodwin College.
